Is Auto or On better for AC humidity control?
Auto is usually better for humidity control because the blower stops between cooling cycles and lets moisture drain from the indoor coil. Fan On can move air continuously, but in humid weather it may put moisture back into the home.
Does leaving the AC fan On use more electricity?
Usually yes. When you set the fan to On, the indoor blower runs continuously instead of only during cooling cycles, so it draws power even when the outdoor condenser is off. Over a long Pinellas County cooling season, that extra blower runtime can add up on your electric bill, especially with an older motor or a restrictive filter.
When does the fan On setting make sense?
Fan On can make sense for short-term air mixing or extra filtration in a home whose ductwork, filter, and equipment are sized and maintained for it, for example when balancing temperatures across rooms after a long run. In humid Florida weather, though, it should be watched against rising indoor humidity, sweating vents, and comfort, rather than left On out of habit.
